In the year 1911 several Christian friends felt the need of a Baptist Sunday School and for several months met in the schoolhouse for Sunday morning services.
The Rev. T.K. Tyson, a Baptist preacher from Woodward, met with the group. In 1912, Rev. A. Armstrong helped to organize the First Baptist Church, which was located just south of the present elementary school.
Some of the members of the first organization were: Mr. & Mrs. Guy Sanderlin, Mr. & Mrs. Alex Burrows, Mr. & Mrs. Frank Gilbert, Mr. & Mrs. Frank Smith and Mr. & Mrs. Clyde Smith.
There have been many changes to our church buildings and community throughout the years, but our church has strived to be steadfast and obedient to God.
We are currently led by our Pastor Lee Shadrick and he serves alongside his wife Rachael and their daughters, Julia and Grace. Ruth Overton is our accompanist and church secretary. Brittany Thompson serves as our financial secretary. Joel Stocking leads our worship through music and is an integral part in the administrational needs of our church.
There was a need in 1911 for a church that worships, serves and obeys our Great God and that need continues today! First Baptist Church in Sharon, Oklahoma will continue to strive to faithfully serve our God as long as He allows us.
